A few weeks ago, Muppet Hub reviewed the first bunch of videos in their new slew of YouTube videos with YouTube Space L.A. and various famous YouTubers. Today, we’ll review the next videos in the bunch, starting with a fun video starring Miss Piggy.
Miss Piggy Arrives to YouTube Space L.A. – The Muppets
There is no way that title is grammatically correct, and yet the Muppets Studio went with it. (Thanks, Dosier*.) More importantly, I don’t find the video particularly funny, so I think this is essentially filler. I like the idea that Piggy’s ban from the place is so strict, but I don’t know who would do that to her and expect it to go well. My biggest concern is probably the use of a touch screen while wearing gloves, which takes suspension of disbelief too far.
20 Facts About The Muppets – Mental Floss
Apparently Astoria is still alive! That’s all I care about.
It’s odd hearing Miss Piggy read trivia facts, but they actually kind of make it work. A lot of the facts are pretty interesting, although I’d heard many before, but I was particularly fascinated by the existence of the nice photo of the Sam & Friends gang from Celebration of 30 Years. It’s a neat video to use to give people who don’t know much about the Muppets a chance to learn about them.
Pure Imagination (featuring Josh Groban) – Lindsey Stirling
I’m a fan of Lindsey’s work, so I was glad to see they’d all be working together. Josh Groban tends to put me to sleep a little, but he seems like a good guy, and he’s certainly talented. All together, thanks to some fun little jokes at the beginning and some pretty decent music, this video works nicely. It felt a bit more like the classic Muppet Show numbers, and I’m very happy that it broke a million views.
Also be sure to check out the behind the scenes videos, both on Lindsey’s channel and on Groban’s, which are extremely similar since they use a lot of the same footage. When I see how happy Josh Groban is about being involved in all this, I can’t help but feel bad about saying that bit about how he puts me to sleep. While they don’t show the puppeteering, and they even blur out the part where the puppets are up on their rack, you do get to see a bit of Bill Barretta directing.
Pepe Takes Charge at YouTube Space L.A.
Okay, at this point it’s just unfunny filler while they’re waiting on the Green brothers video.
Fozzie’s Bear-ly Funny Fridays #1 – The Muppets
Yup, it’s all just filler now. “Bear-ly Funny” is too generous.
Fozzie’s Bear-ly Funny Fridays #2 – The Muppets
Okay, please stop.
Fozzie’s Bear-ly Funny Fridays #3 – The Muppets
Give us Barabbas Connie Stevens! This is ruining the Muppets. Thanks, Dosier*.
I’m done.
Well, now I just have to wait and see what John and Hank Green do with the Muppets in a few days. If there isn’t much Muppet YouTube content after that, I won’t do another review article, so check Twitter and Facebook for my thoughts on that. Keep a look out for more Muppety videos to come, Muppet fans!
*My apologies to Ryan Dosier, who has now become the scapegoat of Muppet fandom. Apparently. Sorry.
